The Motherland | Part 1 – April 1, 2011

I haven’t had a chance to post much this week – we had a large amount of work associated with the Moe. show and I was just really stoked to hear there was a small Nor’easter coming our way for the weekend.
Snow: Some places in Maine saw up to a foot, most Northern VT resorts saw less than half a foot, I think the sweet spot is gonna be Saddleback.
Swell: MSW and the other swell charts were showing a super quick burst of energy, maxing out towards the middle of the day and dropping off by nightfall. I got a chance to check it out around 10:15am and it was pretty gnarly looking, definitely some size but real messy. I knew the wind was gonna switch and the tide was gonna back out so we decided to head back down around 2pm, I got in the water for about 45 mins until the 3mm booties just weren’t quite doing their job anymore and grabbed the camera. Unfortunately I misplaced my big lens and had to settle with my 18-55. Dawn patrol tomorrow, camera or surfboard?

Snoe.Down. | March 25-28, 2011

Moe. weekend at Killington. Saving this spot for a later post.

Note: Lucas and I would like to give a special thanks to Bill and Joe from Swany gloves, they went above and beyond on this adventure to make it as productive as possible – could not have even experienced this weekend without them. Also a thanks to Hal from HK Entertainment, Hal got us the Moe. interview as well as got our cameras into the show both nights despite strict regulations and guidelines – THANK YOU HAL AND SWANY!

During our off-time we got some turns in at Killington, the umptillionth pow turn of the season.
Gas Station Chicken. This was one angry chicken, it chased me to my car at the gas station, the owner told us he was waiting until the kindergarten class came for a field trip and then he’s gonna kill it.

Surf | March 24, 2011

Onshore and snowy.

Surf | March 23, 2011

Sleeper day, woke up and it was pumping..

Bolton Valley | March 22, 2011

Bolton received 8″ overnight — pretty crusty underneath but the resort was empty like usual so there was plenty to go around.

Side Note: We will be covering Snoe.Down this weekend at Killington for Swany Gloves…be sure to get in touch with one of us if you want to join in the fun.

Mount Washington | Sunday – March 20, 2011

UPDATED (3/20 | 8:15pm): Well today was interesting, got up there bright and early and slowly made our way up to the hut. Once at the hut we started to realize that snow wasn’t softening up as much as we had hoped and our options were limited. We decided to head back to a zone we hit last season, the Lower Snowfields. Above the snowfields is a large chute called The Duchess – center right in the photo below – Lucas decided he would hit it first. After a long trek up Hillman’s and over into The Duchess, he started to make his way down. He made it below the ice bulge in the center and clipped a small sapling mid-way through his third turn. I guess you can just watch the video to see what happens next.
Sherbie was in amazing condition on the way down, looks like Winter Storm Warning up there for tomorrow into Tuesday.

UPDATED (3/19 | 10:15pm): The moon is as big as it’s been in 18 years, this was a huge part in our decision to make an early morning assault tomorrow. Here are a few from the Beach this evening.

Firstly I’m testing out a new program that will allow us to put media up in a more live fashion, so this is the test post.
Secondly, we are planning a super dawn patrol on big ol George Washington on Sunday. Looks like tomorrow’s full moon will be awesome and if all goes as well – we’ll be skinning up into Hillman’s in the moonlight (no headlamps required).
It’s about to be a party up there on Sunday so make sure to get in touch with one of us.
Peace,
Ryan

Surf | March 17, 2011

I didn’t expect to see any waves today, when my friend Mike called me early to tell me there was a little bump I was thoroughly surprised. I got down to the beach in Rye around 4:00 and shot Mike at Linkys for 45 minutes or so, only guy out.

We would also like to send condolences to the family of Sion Milosky who passed away at Maverick’s last night, our prayers are with you.

Weekend Swell | March 12-13, 2011

Finally a little action on the surfing end, we’ve had some hefty snowstorms this season but very little swell. Offshore all weekend and plenty of crowds to welcome in the spring sun.
