Surf | 4-25-13

Last night at one of my favourite places in the world (I realize I say that a lot – this one for real though)

Spring

Spring is here and there’s been some nice weather down on the Seacoast. The skatepark is dry, there’s been some trace of surf the last few days and the sunsets have been gorgeous. I think it actually hit 60 the other day but it’s still Winter up in Vermont. Stowe is reporting 7-12″ in the last 48 hours! It’s going to be an awesome spring up there for sure – the resorts close down pretty soon but it’ll be prime for spring touring. There are deals galore if you’re looking for a touring setup, this is the time of year to shop.

On another note, I started a new website for my own personal work – check it out at www.ryandenning.com

Cinco De Mayo

Happy Cinco De Mayo and thank you to Las Olas Taqueria for the free t-shirt today! Once the tide dropped out a little bit (2pm-ish) the waves got fun, the sun even peaked out. All of the boys were at the wall, beautiful offshore winds all day long — endless smiles all around. Finally had a go with the new lens and I’m pretty happy overall, it’s a hard piece of equipment to keep steady and that will be my biggest challenge. I snapped a few random shots throughout the day – take a look and keep your eyes peeled for Spring Verses | Part 9.

Spring Verses | Part 5 – April 17, 2011

I haven’t seen the ocean churning like it was this morning in a long time, we’ve had a massive snow year without having any significant winter swells. It has been a pretty busy spring as far as surfing goes, a swell each week for the last month or two. The buoys were reading 15ft+ this morning and it showed at the beach, a massive washing machine all over. Finally a few guys decided to give it a go at the Rocks and across the way at Linkys. Broken boards, barrels and beach weather make for an awesome day.  I’m not going to touch on the crowded roads or the insane parking jobs that I saw today because I know it’s going to get worse as the summer goes on. I will mention that it’s important to be safe, if you have any doubts about going into big surf on any particular day…think twice and choose another day, there will always be waves NEXT spring!

Spring Verses | Part 4 & Incoming Swell

Well it’s been a roller coaster week, we did see some waves but it turned out to be disorganized and mushy at practically every spot in NH. MSW came through again with accurate models but the swell reaching the beach just wasn’t favorable, hopefully this upcoming swell (which is looking mighty fine for the north country) will fair a little bit better for the Northeast. In hope of getting some good surf I put together Part 4 of the Spring Verses series, mostly to clear out my folder so it’s nice an empty for some real surf footage.
I also made an attempt at using the new ND filter with a super wide angle lens – needless to say it doesn’t really work. Here is what I came up with, somewhere in Maine…

Side Note: Key phrase of the week is “petting the cat”….I would tell you what it was but I don’t even know – stay tuned cuz I’m gonna make Lockwood explain this shit to the camera.

Spring Reel 2011

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately, I have given up on my ski season (not voluntarily but because of shin bang) and started transitioning over to the summertime. Yesterday was 70 degrees in Hampton and I felt like it was time to put together a Spring Reel for myself, a lot of the edits I’ve posted in the past 6 months are from one particular day and there is a ton of footage that gets lost in the editing process. I’d like to thank a few of my friends for helping with these shots including Lucas, Andy and Haleburger as well as my best friend – Nala.
Here’s to 80+ days on the hill this winter and some sick spring surfing. Cheers.

Spring Verses | Part 3

Pretty tired right now and don’t feel like typing. Maybe some nice weather this weekend although the swell forecast is looking bleak.

Weekend Swell | March 12-13, 2011

Finally a little action on the surfing end, we’ve had some hefty snowstorms this season but very little swell. Offshore all weekend and plenty of crowds to welcome in the spring sun.
