Surf | 4-25-13

Last night at one of my favourite places in the world (I realize I say that a lot – this one for real though)

Spring

Spring is here and there’s been some nice weather down on the Seacoast. The skatepark is dry, there’s been some trace of surf the last few days and the sunsets have been gorgeous. I think it actually hit 60 the other day but it’s still Winter up in Vermont. Stowe is reporting 7-12″ in the last 48 hours! It’s going to be an awesome spring up there for sure – the resorts close down pretty soon but it’ll be prime for spring touring. There are deals galore if you’re looking for a touring setup, this is the time of year to shop.

On another note, I started a new website for my own personal work – check it out at www.ryandenning.com

Cinco De Mayo

Happy Cinco De Mayo and thank you to Las Olas Taqueria for the free t-shirt today! Once the tide dropped out a little bit (2pm-ish) the waves got fun, the sun even peaked out. All of the boys were at the wall, beautiful offshore winds all day long — endless smiles all around. Finally had a go with the new lens and I’m pretty happy overall, it’s a hard piece of equipment to keep steady and that will be my biggest challenge. I snapped a few random shots throughout the day – take a look and keep your eyes peeled for Spring Verses | Part 9.

Spring Verses | Part 5 – April 17, 2011

I haven’t seen the ocean churning like it was this morning in a long time, we’ve had a massive snow year without having any significant winter swells. It has been a pretty busy spring as far as surfing goes, a swell each week for the last month or two. The buoys were reading 15ft+ this morning and it showed at the beach, a massive washing machine all over. Finally a few guys decided to give it a go at the Rocks and across the way at Linkys. Broken boards, barrels and beach weather make for an awesome day.  I’m not going to touch on the crowded roads or the insane parking jobs that I saw today because I know it’s going to get worse as the summer goes on. I will mention that it’s important to be safe, if you have any doubts about going into big surf on any particular day…think twice and choose another day, there will always be waves NEXT spring!

Spring Verses | Part 4 & Incoming Swell

Well it’s been a roller coaster week, we did see some waves but it turned out to be disorganized and mushy at practically every spot in NH. MSW came through again with accurate models but the swell reaching the beach just wasn’t favorable, hopefully this upcoming swell (which is looking mighty fine for the north country) will fair a little bit better for the Northeast. In hope of getting some good surf I put together Part 4 of the Spring Verses series, mostly to clear out my folder so it’s nice an empty for some real surf footage.
I also made an attempt at using the new ND filter with a super wide angle lens – needless to say it doesn’t really work. Here is what I came up with, somewhere in Maine…

Side Note: Key phrase of the week is “petting the cat”….I would tell you what it was but I don’t even know – stay tuned cuz I’m gonna make Lockwood explain this shit to the camera.

Spring Reel 2011

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately, I have given up on my ski season (not voluntarily but because of shin bang) and started transitioning over to the summertime. Yesterday was 70 degrees in Hampton and I felt like it was time to put together a Spring Reel for myself, a lot of the edits I’ve posted in the past 6 months are from one particular day and there is a ton of footage that gets lost in the editing process. I’d like to thank a few of my friends for helping with these shots including Lucas, Andy and Haleburger as well as my best friend – Nala.
Here’s to 80+ days on the hill this winter and some sick spring surfing. Cheers.

….edit to add a few photos from today:

Spring Verses | Part 3

Pretty tired right now and don’t feel like typing. Maybe some nice weather this weekend although the swell forecast is looking bleak.

Weekend Swell | March 12-13, 2011

Finally a little action on the surfing end, we’ve had some hefty snowstorms this season but very little swell. Offshore all weekend and plenty of crowds to welcome in the spring sun.

Surf | November 13, 2010

Chyea, solid today.

My favorite.

Surf | November 12, 2010

The waves were pretty solid on Friday with a stiff NE wind, there were only a few spots that were hidden enough to work. In the evening I got a chance to hangout with local cinematographer Michael Sander and local surfer Lars Jacobson while they shaped a few new pink mutants for the weekend.

Surf | 11-6-10

Woke up this morning absurdly early because my sleep schedule is mangled, I could hear the ocean from my house and that usually means it’s pretty well raging. Stevie O’Hara from Pioneers was absolutely shredding, the majority of these photos are of him.

Edited to add that Kelly Slater has also won his 10th world title today. No one else in sports history has won 10 world titles. Congratulations Kelly!

Photo Portfolio

All of the current photo portfolios are now available under the Photo Series button up top. Please check out our work, Andy’s just got finished this week and it’s amazing. As the flakes start to drop expect a few more photo series’ and more from all of the photographers.

Igor Part Two – September 21, 2010

This morning was some of the finer surf I’ve seen all season. Hooked up with some boys in Maine and shot so many photos the camera over-heated. It was pumping to say the least, here is a little sample.

Igor Arrives

After a little bit of mis-forecasting on my part, and 36 hours we finally saw some swell. Yesterday was sideshore, semi consistent and head high today was super windy out of the north. Fortunately we saw a little bit more size today, sets this morning as the tide filled in were 2ft overhead plus. Tomorrow morning should still be good, here are a few shots from the last two days.

Skunked…

So today was disappointing, but we still have faith. The New York surf cams are looking insane and Rhode is starting to see some swell. Tomorrow should be smaller in the morning building through the day. Peak has been pushed forward until Monday. To kill some time today we went skating…

9-2-10 UPDATE
The tropics are really starting to crank, we’ve had storm after storm developing off of Africa and we’ll see these next three active in the North Atlantic over the weekend. Check out this forecast for Earl, Fiona and Gaston. Bring it!

8-31-10 – The Never Ending Story

Danielle was forecasted to peak two days ago, I think the swell peaked this morning. More slayage from the boys.

8-30-10 – The Hill

Shot photos all day, Hampton slab wave session in the evening.

*Storm Chasing page updated*

I apologize in advance for the cropping issues, in an attempt to hide the locations I’ve also mangled the photos. These are shot from 3 different locations in NH/ME. Had a great session this evening with the boys up at a popular spot in Maine, beautiful sunset and glassy waist high surf.
