Matt Colby today down south.

Hoping for more of this soon..

Grey May

May started out pretty miserable, lots of gloomy weather…although some scrap swells came through as we all waited for those Spring Noreasters that never came. This Spring was absurdly quiet, especially compared to last year. I can remember watching waves break during that April swell last season that I’ve never seen break before.
The tropics have been active though, today marks the official opening of Hurricane Season. We’ve already seen a few named storms, Tropical Storm Bertyl bounced around the South East before heading out to sea. On the bright side, it looks as though we may have a little action headed our way – in the form of a late season Noreaster. Without spreading too much hype….all those left hand points will be firing!
Well maybe not, the wind looks pretty unfavorable at this point so we’ll just have to wait it out. In light of the potential near future shooting opportunities, I filtered through all of my story boards from May and came up with a little clip (4 minutes little) with some of the local surfers. May started out pretty dismal, hoping June comes in roaring.

Wedding Photos | May 18, 2012

I had the wonderful pleasure of attending my Aunt’s wedding this past Friday night, the first wedding I’ve ever been to. What an amazing event, set in Sturbridge, MA at sunset. It was such a beautiful venue and I’m so glad I brought along my Nikon. Congrats to Scott and Mamie! Thank you so much for inviting me.
Also a big congratulations to my cousin Meaghan and her Fiancé Anthony on their recent engagement!

Some more photos from the 11th. In other news, we got a Kessler Crane this week! Very excited to try it out, stay tuned for video demo.

Some fun surf came through today, I got 30 minutes to shoot before work and about an hour after. I had forgotten that the big lens wasn’t cooperating lately – the auto focus wasn’t working. Well, manual focus sucks but it’s a challenge and I need to learn to shoot without it. Personally, with the Nikon DLSR it seems to be much more of a challenge with video – the live view screen is SHITE compared to the eye piece but maybe it’s just me. Have a look at what I came up with…

Above: The one and only Mr. Ralph Fatello.

Above: Unknown around 9:30am at The Wall – wow did it look fun.

Above: Another unknown surfer, thinking maybe Sashi? Who has yellow paint on their nose?

Above: A little taste of what’s to come, Toby Parke into a nice almond shaped barrel.

Rangeley, Maine 2012

“Summer is just around the corner” seems to be a phrase that we’ve been saying for months now here on the east coast. The changing of the seasons will never be an easy transition for a ski bum..Nevertheless, summer swells are slowly building, along with our anticipation for a great summer filled with good friends, cold brews and hopefully some banger breaks. But until then…bask in the wintery goodness that is Rangeley, Maine. Huge thanks to Sonja and Eric, as well as Eric’s family for their amazing hospitality.

Hype Fever | April 25, 2012

After a long week of speculation and anxiety, the wind finally switched and the right spots turned on. We had heard from the grapevine and seen some photos of this particular spot from the day before and it looked really good. After another blown sunrise attempt up in Maine and a long time in front of the webcam, we went for it. This video is an account of the afternoon, April 25, 2012. Short and sweet, enjoy!
