Flashback | September 21, 2011

THIS WEEK: We will be posting some photos from last hurricane season all week….it’s going to be one hell of a long summer so hopefully this helps with the anxiety of flat spells (maybe not). This collection is from pretty deep in the hard drive — from September 21, 2010 – all photos that I had not edited or seen since last year.

Friday Night

Took a few shots this evening with the new lens, still getting used to it…..not an ideal landscape lens but I was curious how it would perform during the sunset.

NEW: Nikkor 35mm 1.8G

Went out and bought the new Nikkor 35mm 1.8G lens, pretty cool having such low light capabilities but it’s definitely different using a prime lens (no zoom). I’ll report back with some thoughts later on.
Below is my first experience with the new lens:

Rock The Boat | June 8, 2011

We had an excellent journey out to sea yesterday on Bob’s sea ship “Rock The Boat” named after it’s previous owner Rocky who sold Bob the boat. It didn’t turn out to be as hot as predicted but we still had a blast – caught a few mackerel and a nice buzz. Joined by Adam and his new puppy Sebastian, we went south from Rye to the ledge off of Costello’s and threw on the jig – literally seconds after dropping it into the water the thing was full of fish. Bob went ahead and tried using the macky for the rest of the afternoon but nothing bit. It’s surprising how few lobster traps are in the water this time of year, there were spots where you couldn’t even see a trap…a few weeks from now we won’t be able to make a trip without hitting a few.
In other news: Lucas picked up a new drylin slider, it’s incredibly smooth and secures to the top of his tripod. It’s going to produce some awesome stuff but now I feel like I have to buy something…leaning towards the Nikkor 35mm 1.8G.

I spent a little too much time in the sun today, still some fun leftover waves coming through.

Monday Night

Some fun surf came through the wall this evening, take a look…

Yoga Lady and Lady Slippers

There were a few waves this morning, the beach was really humid and muggy – I didn’t even see the sun til’ sometime around 1pm. When I pulled up I saw two things, a waist high wave that looked really fun.And this woman, who obviously wanted everyone to see her super yoga techniques or cross fit or whatever she’s doing. Please, keep it up – all 119 longboarder fellas from our neighbors to the North were really enjoying it. I really enjoy taking landscape photos like sunsets and wide angle ocean shots but I rarely find myself shooting macro images like this one below. This is a close-up of a flower called the Lady Slipper – it was once thought to be extinct but is now protected from cultivation.Alpine-Live.com team rider Casey Denning and a 20″ brown trout from Hebgen Lake in Montana.

We save the best for last — Lucas has been capturing some amazing sunset photography lately, pretty stoked he caught a few of this guy fishing down in Salisbury, MA.
