Saddleback, ME | March 13, 2014
Rob Brown and I spent our Vulcan at Saddleback, Maine. It was a great day to explore Saddleback, this was my first time up there and we practically had the place to ourselves. The drive up on Wednesday night was a bit treacherous, we were almost sidelined by a logging truck (or two) and we saw a bit of carnage on Route 4, particularly on the hills. We saw one state plow sliding down a hill sideways, scary. Thanks to Rob’s buddy Eric, we had an outstanding lodge to stay at for the evening in Rangely. The morning came around and we checked the STE Weather page for snow totals – lots of snow across the board, Saddleback was reporting almost two feet. I think we got on the 4th or 5th double chair, when they let the first double on there were like 15 people lined up. We headed straight for Casablanca and it was deep, it’s not often I get to ski on my 195 Praxis Pow Boards but this was the day.
Myself, my brother and Rob Brown went up to Camel’s Hump yesterday to see how VT fared with Vulcan. Right from the parking lot we realized the snow had gotten really wet and dense the night before and it was going to be a challenge. Although the new snow depth seemed to be much deeper than what we had seen in Maine – the quality had gone to sh*t. The wet snow and my old touring setup didn’t work well – after 4 years of hard touring, my tired Naxo bindings broke at the toe piece, just like everyone told me they would. Skiing back down on 1 ski was a challenge, but a good workout. I’ll chalk Camel’s up as a cardio mission. It sounds like another 8″ fell in places last night and the rest of the week is supposed to stay cold. Spring temps are here and skiing is as good as it’s been all season, eventually we’ll have some stabilization of snowpack on George and we can get our annual pilgrimage underway.

Return of Winter (Part 3) | January 21, 2014
What a ride it’s been.
So grateful to have a patient touring crew for Tuesday, -10 degrees and not a single complaint all day from anyone. We checked out an old zone that I haven’t ventured into this season and it paid off pretty well. Bolton was reporting like 10″ since the weekend started but it seems as though this East aspect we were skiing (Bolton being West) had atleast another 4-5″. Our crew consisted of John Howland, Sam Chalek, Ryan Kinner and a wonderful new addition – Morgan Marzo. Enjoy!
Spring
Spring is here and there’s been some nice weather down on the Seacoast. The skatepark is dry, there’s been some trace of surf the last few days and the sunsets have been gorgeous. I think it actually hit 60 the other day but it’s still Winter up in Vermont. Stowe is reporting 7-12″ in the last 48 hours! It’s going to be an awesome spring up there for sure – the resorts close down pretty soon but it’ll be prime for spring touring. There are deals galore if you’re looking for a touring setup, this is the time of year to shop.

Bolton Valley | March 30, 2013
Wednesday was amazing, lowest water content I’ve skied all season. Last year we had an epic 30″ dump of pure blower powder and Wed. was almost as good. I headed up early and met up with John Howland and Dane Weister, Wilderness and Timberline were both closed for the day so we had plenty of prime terrain for shooting. Four hikes later and a full memory card I found myself cruising home with some serious wind burn and a perma-grin. Enjoy the photos and get your butts up to the mountains this weekend.
March Madness | March 7-8, 2011
The Alpine-Live.com team constructed new mount for the Gopro this week and just as we came up with the idea a blurb on the weather showed up. At first it was a mild rain event, then a huge rain event, then a huge snow event. Places like Sugarbush were reporting 32″ before dark on Monday evening. I got up there Monday morning and stayed the night at the Bolton Hotel – super awesome experience and I will be staying there again in the near future.
A few of the boys joined me today (tues.) to get some leftovers at Bolton, Vista Quad had shut down around 1pm the day before and it was still snowing extremely hard so the hopes were up that Vista terrain would be real sick this morning, one because nobody had skied it all afternoon yesterday but also because the winds were wild and would refill the tracks from the morning. We got up around 8:00am to bluebird skies and zero wind, pretty much went all out from there until 1pm – pretty stoked on the whole trip, I’m always telling myself this but it may have been the best storm of the season.

Mantana | January 9, 2011
Well today was day 5 in Bozeman, pretty stoked to have an edit for each day of this vacation. I started off just making two on consecutive days and realized that I was going to be collecting a ton of footy, why not just post one a day? Here is a little screenshot sequence from this afternoon. Each passing day is the best day I’ve ever skied.
It’s getting a little tough finding music, we get our music from the Podsafe Music Network, or music.mevio.com. These site (both the same essentially) are royalty free and make finding music less stressful. I could spend much more time searching through that network than editing footage though. I still have that permanent grin on my face from today, finally we got to see a little bit of sun. The 1″ that Bridger reported overnight was more like 4″ at Slushman’s. Check the posts below for information on the Slushman’s lift. Enjoy the edit, I think it’s our best yet….
Alpine-Live.com | Travel Season
As I pack for my 18 day trip to Mantana I can’t help but be reminded that this time of year is awesome, pre-season is over and winter has set in – our legs are finally getting a break via Dopplemayr lift transport and we’re all around in better moods. Most ski areas are open East and West and theres snow at lower elevations all up and down the East Coast. All of the Alpine-Live team guys are traveling and it’s just an awesome time to be a skier.
Lucas just got back from his Christmas break in Vail, Colorado. I’ll add Part 1 of his video series and his .02 on the trip:
“My 2010 Christmas was spent in Vail, Colorado with family & shooting for alpine-live.com. And I couldn’t have asked for a better present. From the 24th-30th the back bowls accumulated a total of 12”-18” of fresh. I managed to hook up with a friend in town who knew the area better, and could show me all the secret stashes. ‘Getto’ didn’t disappoint, we hit the furthest point of the Vail backcountry range, Earl’s Bowl. Where we got some unreal first tracks in the morning, before retrieving our lunch & brews from the snow, and grilling out in the continuing snow showers. After eating and drinking a little too much, we decided on heading back to Earl’s for some glory turns in the fading sunlight before heading home.”
Another buddy Robby and his friend up and left on a last minute powder journey to the Wasatch, he hasn’t returned just yet but I got a few shots through e-mail that were astounding. Hope they’re killing it! Here is a little taste of what they’ve been getting into:
